So what do we have here Honkers? A new restaurant? Again? Tell me how this one is different...
Well, this isn't a new restaurant, Grassroots Pantry is an upgraded, supersized, sustainable, healthy version of the original - which was located in Sai Ying Pun.
Wow! OK so I wont carry on the conversation between me and the hypothetical - all be it - informative Hong Kong persona.. Grassroots is all of those things. They brand themselves as welcoming those who come in search of "wellness, good food and excellent service" and I have to say, they did just that.
At first glance, the menu is a little bit like reading something catered towards the upmarket rabbit. Everything sounds leafy and earthy, and kind of delicious. They have a raw section, a cooked section, a weekend menu and a brunch menu! Don't be alarmed though, it's not overwhelming at all - just really, really fascinating.
In fact, I've never been to a restaurant like it. I'm sure you've heard me bang on before about eating less meat and being a fake vegan at least once a week, but there's something so refreshing about knowing there's a whole restaurant dedicated to the cause. Not EVERYTHING on the menu is vegan mind you, but you can tell which items are gluten free, raw, Buddhist friendly (no idea what this even means), nut free and of course vegan.
Blah blah blah, here are the pictures!
LOVED MY DAIRY FREE, FAIR TRADE RAW COCOA, SINGLE ORIGIN MOCHA! WOW THAT'S WAY MORE PRETENTIOUS WHEN YOU TYPE IT.
omg, this goats cheese tartine was the bomb dot com. so much cheese and loads of freshly roasted walnuts. Could easily eat that bad boy again.
Usually, I'm a pancake with butter, white flour and bacon + banana + cream + maybe even a sausage kind of girl, but these lemon quinoa pancakes were pretty tasty and i would RECOMmend giving them a try!
If you're thinking of going, call and book in advance - it gets pretty busy!
I can't wait, honestly, to go back and eat dinner there! I might even go tonight.
